Biography

Dr. Yu is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist and a UW clinical assistant professor. Her clinical interest is in comprehensive eye care including dry eyes, blepharitis, cataracts and cataract surgery, glaucoma, diabetes in the eye and macular degeneration. She was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned her bachelor’s degree with highest distinction from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She attended Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis and earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology and her M.D. Following her transitional internship at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis she returned to Washington University School of Medicine to complete her residency in ophthalmology.

Dr. Yu has been on the faculty at the University of Washington since 2008.  She is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as the Washington Association of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.  She teaches residents and medical students how to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of eye diseases and also trains residents in cataract surgery.  She values both resident education and patient education and finds them fulfilling aspects of her career. Dr. Yu lives in the greater Seattle area with her husband and two daughters.  Her pastimes include reading, skiing, cooking and family activities.
