Biography

Dr. Kareem Sioufi was born in Damascus, Syria. He started medical school in Syria and left his hometown in 2012 shortly after the war. Prior to residency, he completed a research fellowship in ocular oncology at Wills Eye Hospital and a postdoctoral research fellowship year at the Retina service of Wills Eye Hospital. He completed an internship in general surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) followed by ophthalmology residency at Storm Eye Institute MUSC. He has won multiple awards including the Lawrence Yannuzii award Atlantic coast retina conference 2016, NEI ARVO travel award 2017, Ophthalmology Times Scholar 2018 and 2020, MUSC HELMA research award 2021, and ASCRS Residency Excellence award 2021. Outside work he enjoys the great outdoors and loves spending time with his wife and 1-year-old daughter.
